## Summary

The NHS Devon Integrated Care Board, operating under the legal framework of the directive 32014L0024, recently completed a procurement process titled "P1 Peripatetic Care support," focused on social work and related services. This procurement, located in Plymouth, involves the urgent provision of peripatetic care support for patients discharged from hospitals due to capacity issues within local authority provisions. The contract commenced on 1st October 2025 and is set to conclude on 31st March 2026, with a possibility of a six-month extension. A direct award approach was adopted without prior publication due to the urgency of the requirement. The procurement process has now advanced to the award stage, with the contract valued at £2,400,000 and currently active. Abicare Services Ltd, an established supplier, was selected due to its competitive local pricing and proven performance.

This contract presents significant business growth opportunities, particularly for enterprises specialising in healthcare services capable of handling peripatetic support operations. Given the direct award nature, businesses with existing capabilities in offering efficient, high-quality care services in the specified region would be well-suited to compete in similar urgent procurements. As the NHS Devon Integrated Care Board has prioritised competitive local pricing alongside quality and safety as key award criteria, businesses with a keen focus on cost-efficiency and maintaining essential care standards are likely to find opportunities for future collaborations, especially considering the potential extension of this contract.

## Notice

NHS Devon sought to procure ongoing provision of peripatetic care support for P1 discharge work in Plymouth

### Lot Information

Lot 1

Due to lack of capacity in local authority provision, NHS Devon urgently required additional peripatetic support for P1 work with patients being discharged from hospital in Plymouth. An incumbent was already in place and performing well. Due to the urgency of the need the decision was taken to award a short direct award to this provider. The award is for provision of maximum 29 staff and it is anticipated this number will reduce during the course of the contract period. The contract period is 1/10/25 to 31/3/26 with a 6 month extension option.

Options: Contract may be extended by 6 months to facilitate further procurement activity if required.

### Procurement Information

There was not time to conduct a fully complaint procurement for this service. Due to the urgency of the need, as a result of lack of Local Authority capacity, and the existence of an incumbent supplier performing well and offering competitive local pricing/ alignment with Social Value concerns of the ICB, the decision has been made to issue a short direct award of 6 months, with a 6 month extension option to enable capacity issues to be addressed. A 6 month extension option is included should further procurement be necessary.
