## Summary

The recent procurement process undertaken by Gateshead Borough Council involved the award of a contract for a cloud-based Fleet Management Software System. The procurement falls under the industry-specific software package category, designed to manage the daily operation and administration of the Council's vehicle and plant assets. Located at Gateshead, NE8 3HN, this procurement process was classified as 'goods' with the procurement method being limited due to time constraints. The contract was signed on 16th September 2025 with Civica UK Limited as the supplier, valued at GBP 342,375. The procurement was executed through a direct award process, without prior publication, necessitated by the existing system approaching end-of-life and the lack of adequate time for a full tender process.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses providing bespoke software solutions tailored for public sector operations, particularly in fleet and asset management. Companies like Civica UK Limited, which can offer comprehensive system capabilities and ensure seamless integration with existing council operations, are well-suited to excel in such bids. The demand for robust, industry-specific applications that can effectively handle aspects such as document management, accident management, and maintenance scheduling presents a recurring business opportunity, particularly for industry players focused on delivering scalable and efficient software solutions. Additionally, businesses that can offer flexible contractual options and rapid deployment could find further opportunities as councils seek to adapt swiftly to evolving technological needs.
