## Summary

The procurement process by Maidstone Borough Council pertains to the refurbishment of Cobtree Manor Park's play area, focusing on enhancing accessibility and inclusivity for children with additional needs. Situated in Maidstone, Kent, this initiative falls under the landscaping and park equipment industry category. The tender was initially and actively published on the 20th of October 2025 and reached the award stage by the 13th of February 2026. This open competition, classified below the threshold, encompasses the complete replacement of existing play structures to maintain the park's popularity. The contract commenced on the 28th of February 2026, with its fulfilment expected by the 30th of November 2026.

This tender creates substantial opportunities for businesses specialising in the design, supply, and installation of play equipment that can cater to unsupervised public environments. With an award value of up to £720,000, the procurement encourages small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and ventures with experience in park and playground equipment to partake, as evidenced by the award to Eibe Play Ltd, an SME. It presents a significant growth avenue for businesses that aspire to expand their portfolio in supplying robust and inclusive play facilities, particularly those experienced in landscaping work for parks, aligning with regional demand for inclusive recreational spaces.

## Notice

Cobtree Manor Park is managed as a public open space by the Cobtree Manor Estate Charity Trust. The land is owned by The Cobtree Charity Trust Limited. The two charities work in partnership with Maidstone Borough Council to manage the land and adjacent estate on a 1,000 year lease to MBC. The current play area was installed in 2013 to encourage greater family use of the park. The playspace has met the aims of that project and the site is now very popular with young families visiting the play facilities, park and cafe. In recent years a number of pieces of play equipment have been removed as they reached the end of their lifespan and the play opportunities have been reduced. The remaining equipment offers little opportunity for children with additional needs. For the park to remain a popular outdoor destination for Maidstone and local residents, the play facilities require replacing. The Trust have approved the complete replacement of the play area with the desire to provide an inclusive playspace for children to play together. Maidstone Borough Council is looking to appoint a provider with a proven record of designing, supplying and installing robust play facilities suitable for an unsupervised public open space environment.
