## Summary

NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) is currently in the planning stage of a public procurement process, seeking to establish an Ophthalmology Coordination Service Hub. This initiative falls under the administrative healthcare services industry and is targeted at improving non-emergency ophthalmology referral management across Coventry and Warwickshire. The procurement process is facilitated by NHS Arden and Greater East Midlands Commissioning Support Unit, acting as an agent for the ICB. Key events include an online market engagement event scheduled for 5th November 2025, with subsequent one-on-one sessions on 6th November 2025 to deliberate on the service specifications. Interested providers should register by 4th November 2025 to secure their participation. The procurement category is services, and the procurement value is projected at approximately £940,000 GBP.

This tender provides a strategic opportunity for businesses specialising in administrative healthcare services and call centre operations to expand their reach within the NHS framework and supply chain. With an emphasis on organisations capable of streamlining ophthalmology referral processes, it holds particular appeal for SMEs and Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises (VCSEs) capable of offering innovative solutions to enhance patient referral pathways. As the contract period extends from April 2026 to April 2029, with potential renewals, successful bidders can secure a long-term partnership contributing to improved healthcare service delivery in the region. This opportunity is notably beneficial for entities seeking to solidify their presence in healthcare service facilitation and those adept at navigating regulatory requirements and patient care coordination.

## Notice

***THIS ADVERT IS FOR A MARKET ENGAGEMENT EVENT ONLY*** NHS Arden and Greater East Midlands CSU on behalf of NHS Coventry and Warwickshire ICB are seeking to run a market engagement event for providers who have the relevant experience and skills to provide an Ophthalmology Coordination Service Hub The Ophthalmology Coordination Service Hub (OCS) will support the system-wide approach to the management for all non-emergency (routine and urgent) ophthalmology referrals from community Optometry practices across Coventry and Warwickshire. The OCS will provide a single point of access, administering all incoming referrals from community Optometrists, offering patients a choice of providers in accordance with patient choice regulations, and submitting onward referrals to secondary care (accredited independent sector or NHS provision). The OCS supports the streamlining of ophthalmology referrals across the ICS, reducing delays to patients being referred from the community to secondary care and freeing up primary care capacity. For every routine and urgent referral, the service will provide patients with choice of access based on the referring condition, supporting patients being seen by the right person, in the right place, the first time. The service will not undertake clinical triage of incoming referrals.
