## Summary

The UK Atomic Energy Authority, based in Oxfordshire, has completed the procurement process for the Lead Lithium Experimentation Loop project through a direct award procedure. The project, which falls under the services category, invites expert suppliers to contribute to developing a detailed design for the Fusion Technology Facility. The procurement process focuses on progressing from preliminary design to detailed development, ensuring technical and research advancements. The award was published on 23rd October 2025, with a contract period from 5th November 2025 to 4th November 2026, indicating a well-defined schedule for the development stages. The document details found in this process include installation services of testing equipment and miscellaneous membership organisations services, offering a rich opportunity for suitable industry specialists.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities for companies specialising in scientific research, especially those with expertise in the fusion technology sector. As the project requires advanced technical design capabilities and industry-specific knowledge, organisations with a robust background in designing complex experimental setups or managing long-term development projects may find this undertaking particularly aligned with their core competencies. The involvement of Frazer-Nash Consultancy, known for its substantial fusion sector expertise, highlights the potential this project has for leading-edge companies aiming to position themselves as pioneers in nuclear fusion technology development. This contract not only provides a platform to showcase advanced technical abilities but also to collaborate with a renowned public authority, potentially enhancing reputation and expanding professional networks.

## Notice

The LLiMFA is at a preliminary design stage and UKAEA are now looking for potential suppliers to progress the design development and produce a Detailed Design of the test loop for the Fusion Technology Facility alongside CHIMERA. Creation of the LLiMFA will allow the supply of Liquid Lead Lithium to both test apparatus, for the research and development of components and materials for use in future fusion systems. The project deliverable this year is a detailed design of the loop that will incorporate further research into ensuring the outstanding challenges from the preliminary design stage can be solved, as well as developing the status of existing work to the point of manufacture (albeit no manufacturing will take place this year).

### Procurement Information

- Continuity of Design: Frazer-Nash led the preliminary design phase, producing ~28 technical documents and passing UKAEA's design gate review. Their continued involvement avoids regression to concept phase and ensures design momentum. - Fusion Expertise: They demonstrated strong fusion sector knowledge, technical capability, and alignment with UKAEA's design philosophy. - Risk Mitigation: Switching suppliers would risk delays, increased costs, and design misalignment, as new consultants may not adopt or understand the existing design. - Strategic Planning: Frazer-Nash provided a clear roadmap from detailed design through to future manufacture and commissioning, even though this phase focuses solely on design.
