## Summary

The procurement process involves the Ministry of Defence (MOD), represented by Babcock Land Defence Limited, which has awarded a contract to Van Kappel Ltd for the repair, remanufacture, and maintenance of the Challenger 2 ESW Auxiliary Power Units. This contract falls under the services industry category, specifically focusing on the repair, maintenance, and associated services of vehicles and related equipment. The procurement method employed was a limited, negotiated procedure without the publication of a contract notice due to technical reasons that only Van Kappel Ltd could fulfil. The contract is active and was signed on 30th September 2025, with a duration of four years and three additional one-year options. The location of the activity is specified within the UK region coded as UKG21. The total value of the contract is £1,440,000,000.

This procurement presents significant business growth opportunities for companies involved in high-precision maintenance and repair services, especially those with experience in defence equipment. Businesses with a strong technical background, exclusive tools, and expertise in this niche market of vehicle maintenance and equipment services could potentially gain a competitive edge in similar future tenders. The contract illustrates the necessity for specialised technical knowledge and equipment, suggesting that businesses in this field should continually invest in acquiring and upgrading technical capabilities to align with such specialised government contract requirements.
