## Summary

Kent County Council has recently awarded a contract for the processing and disposal of organic waste in three distinct regions: West Kent, Mid Kent, and East Kent. The contract, officially granted to Countrystyle Recycling Limited on 25th March 2026, follows a selective competitive procedure. The services are set to commence on 1st April 2026, and the contract spans five years, with an optional five-year extension based on performance metrics and mutual agreement. The procurement falls under the industry category of refuse and waste-related services, and Kent County Council, as the waste disposal authority, aims to handle an estimated volume of 95,000 tonnes annually. Strategic locations for the service provision cover the regions of UKJ43 and UKJ45 within the United Kingdom.

This tender represents significant business growth potential, particularly for enterprises specialising in waste management and recycling services. Businesses equipped with the necessary waste processing infrastructure, planning permissions, and health and safety standards will find opportunity in this contract, which includes provisions for blended garden and food waste processing. Countrystyle Recycling Limited's role as the supplier indicates a chance for collaborative ventures or subcontracting arrangements. Additionally, there are mechanisms such as CPI-linked annual price adjustments, offering flexibility and resilience against inflation, which might appeal to firms looking for stable long-term contractual engagements. The competitive flexible procedure implies adaptability in the tendering stages, presenting an advantageous platform for large-scale providers capable of delivering consistent regional waste solutions.

## Notice

As a Waste Disposal Authority, Kent County Council (KCC) has a statutory responsibility to arrange for the disposal of the organic waste collected in its area by the Waste Collection Authorities (collected at kerbside), and deposited by residents at Household Waste Recycling Centres. KCC is awarding a new contract for the processing and disposal of organic waste, with the new services commencing on 1st April 2026. The Provider will be required to have in place: * A waste processing facility with appropriate permitting, planning permissions and health and safety standards; * An electronic weighbridge for the weighing-in of material delivered to their facility to provide the Council with the appropriate management information (including weigh-loader transaction listings); * Robust service contingency plans to ensure continuity of services in the event of non-availability of facility, plant failure, etc. * Provision to accept blended organic waste and food waste (subject to legislation and Waste Collection Authority methods) * Regular reporting methods for tonnage processed, contamination rates, and recycling/recovery outcomes. The overall estimated volume for this contract is circa. 95,000 tonnes per annum. This contract is split into 'operational lots' based on regional requirements: Lot 1 - West Kent (circa. 35,953 tonnes per annum) Lot 2 - Mid Kent (circa. 34,390 tonnes per annum) Lot 3 - East Kent (circa. 23, 811 tonnes per annum) The published award values for all lots are estimates based on projected waste volumes. These values are subject to change and will be adjusted in accordance with the actual tonnage processed throughout the contract term. In addition, the contract includes provisions for annual price adjustments linked to the relevant Consumer Price Index (CPI) in accordance with the pricing mechanism set out in the procurement documents. Furthermore, the contract incorporates an optional service for the processing of blended garden and food waste. This optional element may be activated at the Authority's discretion should operational requirements necessitate this service during the contract period.
