## Summary

The procurement process for the Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy System is currently in the planning stage. The buying organisation, United Kingdom National Nuclear Laboratory Limited, is overseeing this tender. They are classified as a sub-central government public authority. Located in Warrington, UK, the laboratory is seeking the design and manufacture of the FTIR system, with an intended contract period starting on 26th January 2026 and ending on 5th October 2026. The procurement process began with a preliminary market engagement notice published on 10th November 2025, and potential suppliers should note the engagement milestone due by 28th November 2025. This procurement falls under the industrial machinery category and is intended for delivery within the UK.

This tender offers significant opportunities for businesses specialising in industrial machinery, particularly those experienced in designing and manufacturing advanced spectroscopy systems. Companies with capabilities in remote-operation technologies and equipment designed for harsh environmental conditions would be well-suited to compete for this contract. The scope for providing not only the FTIR equipment but also the associated software and computing support presents additional growth opportunities. Engaging in this procurement could enhance a company's portfolio within a critical and highly specialised sector, offering long-term business development potential alongside initial contract fulfillment.

## Notice

The design and manufacture of a Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy System. High level functional requirements as per below: 1. The FTIR equipment shall be capable of measuring the corrosion thickness on samples up to 10 um. 2. The FTIR rig shall be operated remotely. 3. The FTIR equipment shall be capable of being operated in conjunction with an XY table, allowing the complete area of the sample to pass over the FTIR sampling area. 4. The probe head of the FTIR equipment must protrude from the end of the spiral wall plug to which it is fitted in order to allow the sample to be presented up to the probe with a clearance of 0.4mm +/- 0.1mm. 5. The probe head of the FTIR equipment shall be protected from damage that samples being pushed against it could cause. 6. The FTIR equipment shall include a desktop computer and software to support the analysis and display the results from the FTIR equipment. 7. The FTIR equipment shall be designed to withstand the in-cell environment. * Radiation In-cave: 30Gy/hour at 30cmo Out-of-cave: 10uGy/hour at 30cm * Temperature In-cave: 5degC to 45degCo Out-of-cave: 5degC to 35degC* All equipment shall operate in relative humidity of5% to 95% non-condensing. * All equipment shall operate at atmospheric pressure.
