## Summary

The Northern Lighthouse Board, based in Edinburgh, has successfully completed the procurement process for a project titled "Generator Connection Point" at the NLB Oban Base. This project, aligned with the central government sector, falls under the electrical installation industry category and is aimed at creating a facility for manually connecting a standby diesel generator to provide temporary power in case of mains failure. The procurement was conducted as an open competition, with the contract awarded on 12th January 2026 to Sulzer Services UK Limited. This award follows an active tender stage and required a mandatory site visit on 4th December 2025.

This tender offers potential growth for businesses in the electrical installation sector, particularly for those specializing in generator and electrical wiring services. The contract, valued at approximately £43,543, spans from 19th January 2026 to 30th January 2026. Businesses that can provide high-quality project capabilities alongside financial competitiveness are well-suited to pursue such opportunities, which not only enhance their portfolio but also fortify their presence in government-led infrastructure projects. While a part of the awarded bids came from SMEs, larger firms held significant potential, indicating a promising avenue for growth and collaboration for diverse business scales.

## Notice

NLB Oban Base - Generator Connection Point NLB require the facility to manually connect a standby diesel generator to provide temporary power to the NLB Oban base electrical system in the event of a mains failure or a blackout. This will take the form of a generator connection point on the outside wall of the ESTF Building with cabling routed on tray to the Switchboard in the ESTF Switch room. The cabling from the new Generator Connection Point will be connected to an existing spare breaker in Compartment A2 in the LV Switchboard. The existing 400A Breaker in compartment A2 is required to be configured such that the load side feeds the switchboard busbar. This has been discussed with Terasaki and basically entails a rotation of the breaker 'in situ' as highlighted in photograph below. This is because the existing breaker protection device is not bi-directional. Site Visit A site visit is planned for Thursday 4 December 2025. This is a mandatory requirement and any supplier not attending the site visit will be excluded from this quotation exercise.
