## Summary

The National Library of Scotland has completed a procurement process for the supply of virtual servers aimed at enhancing their existing Nutanix Solution hosting environment. This procurement, titled "Virtual Servers," falls under the goods category specifically classified under computer servers with CPV code 48820000. The procurement was conducted through a limited method without prior competition due to technical requirements necessitating sole supplier selection. Notably, the contract, valued at £551,000 and awarded on 22nd October 2025, was granted to XMA Limited, recognising the absence of viable competition for the necessary technical integration. The delivery location is specified at Kelvin Hall, Glasgow, with the Library's contact point based in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. This tender reached its award stage with the contract presently active.

This procurement process presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in the supply and integration of advanced server solutions within public institutions. Although this particular contract was awarded through a non-competitive action due to specific technical grounds, the document highlights the expanding infrastructure needs of the National Library of Scotland. Businesses specialising in virtual server technology, especially those capable of offering comprehensive service packages that include scalability for future needs, would be well-suited to explore similar opportunities in the public sector. This scenario reflects a broader movement within public procurement where bespoke technical solutions, such as cloud and on-premise server services, are becoming increasingly sought after, offering avenues for demonstrating innovative capabilities and establishing long-term partnerships.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

This Procurement was carried out via a Non-Competitive Action (NCA) for technical (integration) reasons.

### Procurement Information

The Library has an existing contract with XMA (contract number 2023.24.049) for the provision of virtual servers hosting the Nutanix Solution. This contract's scope is scalable to allow the purchase of further servers and associated licenses / support, in anticipation of the Library making use of this pending the outcome of a cloud migration review. The expectation was that most of the Library's new virtual storage needs would be covered by the move to the cloud. However, on concluding the review, the Library has found that such a move at the scale required would be prohibitively expensive and has therefore ruled it out. This has resulted in the unforeseeable scale at which the Library now has to extend the on-premise virtual server environment.
