## Summary

The British Film Institute, a public authority within sub-central government, has recently completed the procurement process for the "BFI SB Escape Routes Upgrade" project, aimed at upgrading escape routes at the BFI Southbank building in London. The tender involved essential repair and upgrade works resulting from fire risk assessments and surveys indicating deteriorations. The procurement method was limited competition below the threshold, with the contract value ranging between £250,000 and £300,000. The process reached the award stage on 25th November 2025, with the contract awarded to MCD Heritage Ltd, and work commencing on 27th November 2025 until 26th March 2026.

This tender presents significant business growth opportunities for companies specialising in building installation work, especially those capable of handling complex structural repairs and upgrades. Large contractors with experience in restoration and maintenance of infrastructure, particularly in the context of heritage properties, would find this tender particularly suited to their capabilities. The project demands expertise in managing the impact of environmental factors such as water ingress, positioning it as a lucrative prospect for companies with a proven track record in similar works.

## Notice

The BFI requires a Contractor to deliver BFI Southbank Escape Routes Upgrade (Works) and is therefore undertaking a competitive process under a Closed Tender Procedure. Recent fire risk assessments and condition surveys of the BFI Southbank building have highlighted several concerns regarding the condition of designated escape routes. A number of these routes are currently in poor condition, primarily due to the age-related deterioration of exit doors and damage caused by water ingress. This has affected not only the surface finishes but also some of the underlying structural metal elements. To address these issues, essential repair and upgrade works are required. With these we aim to prevent further deterioration, restore the integrity of the escape routes, and enhance the overall appearance of the building. Appendix E sets out the full Scope of Works for all different areas of the building. Appendix F sets out the basic design for the most complex locations. The contract will be awarded for 5 months and the budget for the works is up to PS250,000 - PS300,000
