## Summary

The public procurement contracting process led by Diamond Light Source Limited, a central government public authority, involved the award of a contract for the design, manufacture, test, and delivery of the APPLE-II undulators for Diamond-II Beamlines I06 and I10. This tender process was conducted using an open procedure, and the procurement was covered by the Government Procurement Agreement (GPA). The contract was awarded to Kyma S.p.A., a small and medium enterprise based in Trieste, Italy. The contract, valued at a gross amount of £1,716,000, commenced on 10 March 2026 and will run until 10 November 2027. The contract involves goods under the laboratory, optical, and precision equipment category, and aims at enhancing the capabilities of the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus located in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom, which is crucial for scientific investigation at atomic and molecular levels.

This procurement activity presents substantial opportunities for specialist businesses involved in manufacturing precision laboratory and optical equipment. Companies with expertise in designing and delivering high-performance technological equipment could thrive by aligning their capabilities with the requirements outlined by Diamond Light Source Limited. The complex nature of the tender involving the delivery of high-tech APPLE-II undulators suggests that businesses with experience in science park environments, and specifically those that focus on innovation and technical quality, are well positioned to compete in this area. The open procurement procedure allows for a competitive environment, giving businesses a chance to leverage their technical expertise to secure such specialised contracts, thereby promoting growth within the science and engineering industries.

## Notice

Located on the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire, Diamond Light Source (DLS) is a leading-edge facility for science, engineering and innovation. Diamond allows researchers from academia and industry to investigate the structure and behaviour of the world around us at the atomic and molecular level. To continue delivering the world-changing science that Diamond enables, the facility is being upgraded to Diamond-II, a co-ordinated programme of development that combines a major machine upgrade with new instruments and complementary improvements to optics, detectors, sample environment and delivery capabilities, and computing, as well as integrated and correlative methods. This will be transformative in speed and spatial resolution and will offer users streamlined access to enhanced instruments for life and physical sciences. The scope of the contract is for the design, manufacture, test, and delivery to DLS of two identical complete eight axes out-of-vacuum APPLE-II undulators, subject to the performance specification, together with all the necessary drawings and documentation to ensure the insertion devices (IDs) can be operated and maintained without supplier support if necessary.
