## Summary

Medway Council, located in Chatham, United Kingdom, has completed the procurement process for the "Provision of Intermediate Care and Reablement Services." This project falls within the health and social work services industry category and is situated in the UKJ41 region. The procurement was conducted under an open procedure, with a contract award issued on 7th April 2026 to HCRG Care Services Limited. The contract covers a comprehensive service model catering to home-based and bed-based intermediate care and reablement, with specific pathways for hospital discharges, and is set to commence on 1st October 2026. Spanning five years initially, the contract includes potential extensions, allowing for four more years, ultimately concluding as late as 30th September 2035. The project's gross value stands at £42.67 million, indicating a considerable commitment from the local authority towards improving health and reablement services.

This procurement offers significant opportunities for businesses specialising in health and social services, especially those able to meet the stringent standards set by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The service integration presents benefits for larger-scale service providers, such as HCRG Care Services Limited, which can deliver complex care solutions across various pathways. Moreover, while the initial award does not appear to have engaged small or VCSE businesses in the final bid stages, the award criteria highlighted the importance of quality, price, and social value, suggesting potential future opportunities for a broader range of businesses to participate. The open procurement method adopted by Medway Council ensures a fair competitive environment, paving the way for innovative solutions and potential collaborations within the healthcare system.
