## Summary

The North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust has issued a contract for the provision of specialised psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU) services under the Healthcare Services Provider Selection Regime (PSR) Regulations 2023. This contract, titled "Out of Area Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Placement," falls within the health industry category of psychiatric hospital services and is valued at £28,420.00. The procurement method employed was a limited award procedure without prior publication, as this was the only available option. The award followed a direct purchasing process, at £1,015.00 per day for an undetermined duration starting from 6 November 2025. The services will be delivered at Cygnet Hospital Wolverhampton in the West Midlands.

This tender creates business growth opportunities for providers of specialised inpatient mental health care, notably those capable of delivering acute psychiatric services on short notice. The contract suits large-scale psychiatric service providers who can accommodate direct awards without competitive tendering. Organisations with experience in psychiatric intensive care and past involvement with spot purchasing arrangements are particularly well-suited to benefit, offering continued specialised care in an inpatient setting as required by the NHS Trust. Given the specificity and urgency of the services, this contract allows for maintaining critical healthcare services while expanding provider engagement for future endeavours.
