## Summary

The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew sought a CHN Elemental Analyser to enhance its research capabilities in laboratory services, specifically focusing on soil, peat, plant, and fungal samples. The procurement process was initiated as a direct award without prior publication, utilising the LAB2010 NE Life Sciences Equipment, Materials & Services Framework. The procurement category is services with a legal basis under CELEX 32014L0024. The final awarding occurred on 1st December 2025, with the contract valued at GBP 69,440.25, and the award status is active.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in laboratory equipment and services, particularly those with expertise in elemental analysis systems. Small and medium enterprises, like Elementar UK Ltd, which successfully secured the contract, are well-suited to meet such specialised requirements. The focus on future-proofing equipment means ongoing opportunities for innovation and upgrades, potentially expanding business scope within environmental protection initiatives led by RBG Kew. This can facilitate strategic partnerships and broaden service offerings within the UK's broad regional landscape.

## Notice

The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew ('RBG Kew') does not currently have the ability to perform total carbon and nitrogen analysis in house. Recently, research at Kew has moved into areas where there is increasing demand for such measurements from soil, peat, plant and fungal samples. RBG Kew is therefore seeking to acquire a base elemental analysis system capable of at least total carbon and total and nitrogen (CN) measurement by combustion analysis to meet current needs. For future-proofing, this base system should also be capable of sulphur and hydrogen analyses and preferably be upgradable in the future to measure oxygen, total organic carbon and total inorganic carbon.
