## Summary

The University of York has awarded a contract related to the provision of high spectroscopic quality CeBr3 scintillation crystals for radiation detection to Hellma Materials GmbH. This purchase is part of the University's Nuclear Physics research programme, specifically under the HYPATIA collaboration aiming to enhance facilities with advanced detectors at the RIBF facility in Japan. The contract, valued at £410,000, falls under the category of goods and is planned to run from 1st June 2026 to 31st May 2028, with potential for a 12-month extension. This procurement followed an open procedure, inviting suppliers to submit bids via the University's eTendering system, with final bids considered up until 27th January 2026.

This tender offers growth opportunities for suppliers involved in the manufacturing and supply of high-quality scintillation crystals and radiation detection apparatus. With a focus on technical quality alongside commercial cost considerations, businesses capable of delivering innovative solutions for nuclear research applications will be particularly suited to compete. The collaborative nature of this project, targeting upgrades at international research facilities, may benefit suppliers with experience in global research initiatives, seeking to expand their involvement in cutting-edge scientific endeavours.

## Notice

Provision of high spectroscopic quality CeBr3 scintillation crystals for radiation detection. The Nuclear Physics Group at the University of York has an active research programme using scintillator detectors. One research programme where the York Nuclear Physics group is leading the efforts is the HYPATIA (HYbrid Photon detector Array To Investigate Atomic nuclei) collaboration. The HYPATIA array has been proposed as an upgrade to the highly successful DALI2+ gamma-ray spectrometer - based on NaI(Tl) scintillators - at the RIBF facility in RIKEN, Japan. HYPATIA is well suited for in-beam gamma-ray experiments for slowed-down and fast rare-isotope beams at the RIBF and will be composed of about one thousand scintillation crystals (CeBr3 and GaGG(HR)).
