## Summary

The University of Aberdeen is currently in the tender stage of a procurement process titled "Aberdeen Geothermal Feasibility Project - University of Aberdeen". This project falls under the services category, specifically drilling services, and is located at the University of Aberdeen campus in Scotland, United Kingdom. The procurement process is being conducted through an open procedure, with an end date for tender submissions set for the 19th of January 2026, and bid opening scheduled for the same day. The procurement involves technical project management, drilling, logging, and fibre-optic instrumentation for the drilling of a geothermal research borehole, aiming to provide a long-term research platform. The total contract value for this opportunity is £400,000, and the defined contract period is 120 days.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in geological, geothermal, or drilling services, particularly those with expertise in handling complex technical projects. Companies that can offer advanced technologies for fibre-optic instrumentation or those experienced in geothermal energy projects would find this tender particularly suited to their competencies. Winning this contract could provide substantial growth, visibility, and the potential to partner with a prominent educational and research institution. Businesses that can meet the high technical criteria, which make up 90% of the award criteria, alongside offering competitive pricing will be well-positioned to compete in this procurement exercise.

## Notice

This Invitation to Tender (ITT) invites qualified contractors to provide services for the technical project management, drilling, logging, fibre-optic instrumentation, and optional testing of a geothermal research borehole (>500-1000 m) at the University of Aberdeen campus as part of the Aberdeen Geothermal Feasibility Pilot (AGFP). The aim of this project is to safely drill and complete a deep borehole on the University of Aberdeen campus to a minimum depth of 500 m, and to extend as deep as safely achievable within site and budget constraints, with the option of a second shallow monitoring well. The borehole(s) will provide a long-term research platform for geothermal, geological, petrophysical, hydrological, and geophysical investigations. The deep borehole will be equipped with a Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) and Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) systems and a mechanism for groundwater sampling, flow and recharge testing, allowing long-term monitoring and characterisation of subsurface thermal, geophysical and hydrological behaviour.
