## Summary

Staffordshire County Council, located in Stafford, UK, has successfully completed the award stage of a procurement process entitled "Wood Fuel Supply". The procurement falls under the industry category of wood fuels and involves the supply of both round timber and wood chip fuel to various biomass heat installations across Staffordshire. This open procedure culminated in awarding a framework to HEARTWOOD TREE SURGEONS LIMITED and HRJ GOULD LIMITED for the supply services. The contract commenced on 7th April 2026 and will run through to 31st March 2028, with the option for two additional 12-month extensions based on satisfactory performance. Services are expected to comply with specific standards, such as the Felling License and Timber Transport Forum guidelines, ensuring rigorous quality and sourcing within a 60-mile radius.

The awarding of this contract presents ample growth opportunities for businesses involved in forestry, timber logistics, and biomass fuel production. With the potential need to source and deliver up to 1,500 tonnes of round timber annually, companies specialising in sustainable wood sourcing and haulage logistics can thrive by meeting these requirements reliably. Additionally, organisations capable of producing wood chip fuel to specification stand to gain from increased demand as part of the county's renewable heat initiatives. SMEs with expertise in timber trading and logistics, particularly those located within the Midlands, are well-positioned to leverage this framework agreement through its requirements for competitive pricing during call-off contracts, enhancing their business prospects in the green energy sector.

## Notice

Staffordshire County Council (SCC) operates as both a timber merchant and as a wood chip fuel producer/trader which supplies wood chip fuel to a range of biomass heat installations across the county. This operation receives bulk loads of round logs to its timber yard at Heatley Hall Farm, Rugeley, which are stored until suitable for chipping on site. The chips are warehoused in specially constructed shelters on site for further drying until required for delivery to our biomass heat installations on an as-needed basis. This procurement is for the supply of services to SCC to assist our activity as timber merchant and as a wood chip fuel producer/trader which supplies wood chip fuel. The maximum expected annual volume approximates to 1,500 tonnes of Round Timber. Timber should be sourced within a 60-mile radius of the depot where possible. The haulier must demonstrate full compliance with the The Road Haulage of Round Timber Code of Practice 2020, or any successive document, as published by the Timber Transport Forum. All providers of round timber must be able to demonstrate evidence of a Felling License reference. NOTE: This is the Contract Details Notice for the awarding of the framework and not a call-off contract. Framework has been awarded to Heartwood Tree Surgeons Limited and HRJ Gould Limited.
