The region of delivery is specified as UKG, which would interest regional and national suppliers looking to expand their market in public sector projects.

## Notice

We would like to replace the shelving and furniture in the children's library at the Central Library to create a vibrant and welcoming space for families and children from birth to 15 years of age. The following is a list of requirements: Functional specification The system will be a modular system designed to offer maximum design freedom -mobile units with connecting fillets for directional changes and creating defined physical spaces. The library currently holds approximately 20,000 items which include both hardback and paperback books, picture/board books and easy readers. Books displays are also desirable. The area has a ramp that runs through the middle of the room with a counter at the end. Although we cannot move the ramp, we are planning on removing the counter- so please quote for a smaller counter in a new position to maximise space. It would also be desirable if graphics could be used both on the end of books shelves and on the large back wall above the shelving. A table and chairs to help children to play/study and a Upholstered story telling chair and rug is also required. Shelving The shelving must have proven performance in high traffic library environments and must be built-to-last, with a 10-year warranty (assuming fair wear and tear). They should also be available in a range of colours. Standards Compliance The shelving must be tested to BS 4875-7:2006, ensuring it can endure the demands of a busy library. This includes tests for structural integrity, durability, and safety, providing evidence that the products are built to last. All shelving and furniture components must be manufactured under an ISO9001-accredited process to meet relevant British and European standards. All suppliers must hold environmentally responsible credentials, including FSC certificates for wood-based products. Counter A replacement counter is required. This can be a modular system or a large desk. The counter must be big enough to house two PCs We also require additional lockable storage for staff files, materials, newspapers and magazines etc. Furniture Seating Furniture must be tested to BS EN 16139:2013 - Strength, durability & safety and BS EN 1021-1 / 2 Assessment of the ignitability of upholstered furniture. The fabrics must be recommended for task and soft seating within public environments. Tables must be tested to BS EN 15372 Level 2 is a European standard that specifies requirements for the safety, strength, and durability of non-domestic tables. Study facilities and PC workstations are also required General Design The central Library is a grade II* listed building so experience of working in a heritage-sensitive environment is essential. The design proposal should be one that balances vibrancy with respect, innovation with compliance. The design should be structured around three core principles: zoning, flow, and engagement. The space should be accessible to all abilities, including those with disabilities. This includes aisles for wheelchair access and pushchairs. The layout should give good sightlines for easy supervision by staff, enhancing safety and security.
