## Summary

United Utilities Water Limited has completed a direct award procurement process for a contract titled "Goods-Framework-Purchase of FloCell Filtration Systems", within the industry category focusing on machinery for the treatment of sewage. The contract is specifically for the provision of FloCell XFM units for wastewater applications across various sites in the United Kingdom, particularly in the UKD region. The procurement process was necessitated by unique design requirements that only the XFM units could meet. The procurement stage is at the award phase with an award status marked as pending, and the overarching contract is set to start on 27th February 2026, running until 27th February 2031, with potential extensions up to 2036.

This tender presents a significant business growth opportunity, particularly for companies involved in the supply of sewage treatment machinery and those with expertise in managing low flow treatment sites. WCS Environmental Engineering, identified as the supplier for this contract, is likely to benefit from the large-scale implementation and supply of FloCell Filtration systems, valued at approximately £11.25 million. This opportunity is particularly suited for large businesses that are capable of handling substantial contracts and have experience in working within the utilities sector, especially those with proprietary technology that meets specific environmental and operational challenges. The procurement method underscores the importance of holding intellectual property or exclusive rights to specialized technologies, aligning well with businesses that innovate in wastewater management solutions.

## Notice

Procurement of standardised XFM units for use on wastewater applications to be supplier across the company's operating footprint

### Procurement Information

United Utilities have several sites that are included within the Phosphorus removal driver where other TSR solutions are entirely unsuitable due to the levels of return flow required to achieve FTFT (Flow to Full Treatment). These unique design constraints do not impact the FloCell XFM units due to the unique technology utilised. The fact they operate with open cell media eliminates the need for backwashing with water (eliminates the need for backwashing tanks and additional pumps) therefore XFM units are the only available TSR suitable for these low flow sites.
