## Summary

NHS Sussex Integrated Care Board has awarded a contract titled "Cruse Bereavement Care" under urgent circumstances to continue providing specialist bereavement services across Sussex. This contract is part of the Health Care Services category and was necessitated by the inability to extend or novate an existing contract from West Sussex County Council. The contract, valued at £77,368, will run from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027, maintaining service continuity while a Sussex-wide specification is finalised. The procurement process employed was a 'limited' procedure, and the awarding process was approved by senior NHS Sussex officials under the Provider Selection Regime (PSR) Regulations 2023.

This contract offers business opportunities for large-scale health service providers with expertise in bereavement care and suicide bereavement support. Companies experienced in delivering high-quality health services can leverage this contract to establish or strengthen their presence in the Sussex region. As the contract aligns with community health needs, it represents a significant opportunity for service providers specialising in continuity of care and innovative healthcare solutions to participate in future commissioning projects once the service review is complete. This opportunity is particularly beneficial for organisations capable of supporting community health objectives under tight timelines.

## Notice

This contract provides a single point of access for referrers and patients across Sussex to access specialist bereavement services for people bereaved by suicide, as well as a West Sussex service to provide information, advice and support for the same group.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

This notice is to advise of an urgent award of contract in order to provide continuity and ensure patient safety whilst a Sussex-wide specification is completed and the commissioning direction confirmed. The reason for urgency is that there is no option to extend or novate the current contract from West Sussex County Council and therefore NHS Sussex ICB will need to maintain continuity of service by contracting directly with the existing Provider. The Commissioner intends to review the services in line with neighbourhood team development before making a decision on whether to move to open procurement. This review will be undertaken during the term of the new contract. The contract length is in order to ensure parity with other Sussex bereavement contracts which are being novated to the ICB. The award is for one year, during which time it will be assessed alongside Brighton and Hove and East Sussex services in order to plan for a Sussex wide service. This notice is confirmation of an award having been made due to an urgent circumstance. The lifetime value of this contract is PS77,368.00 across the 12-month period between 01/04/2026 - 31/03/2027.

### Procurement Information

This contract has been awarded under the urgent circumstances provision of the Provider Selection Regime (PSR). This contract has been awarded under the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023. For the avoidance of doubt, the provisions of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 and the Procurement Act 2023 do not apply to this award. This award was made under an urgent circumstance in order to provide continuity and ensure patient safety whilst a Sussex wide specification is completed and the commissioning direction confirmed.
