## Summary

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust has concluded a procurement process for the direct supply of FDG tracers used in PET-CTs for privately funded patients and research. Under the procurement category of goods and with a central government public authority, this contract was awarded to Siemens Healthcare LTD. The procurement process took place in London, United Kingdom, with the legal framework cited as per UK legislation 2023/54. The contract is set to commence on 1 April 2026 and will potentially extend until 31 March 2030, highlighting opportunities for contract continuation based on supplier performance. This direct award aims to ensure patient safety and staff efficiency by maintaining a streamlined supply method, eliminating the risk associated with swapping vials between patients, which poses safety hazards due to radiation exposure and workspace constraints.

This procurement presents valuable opportunities for Siemens Healthcare LTD to expand its influence in the radiopharmaceutical industry, specifically in privately funded healthcare contributions. Businesses involved in this sector may consider strategic partnerships or sub-contract arrangements with Siemens Healthcare LTD to tap into the growing demand for specialised FDG tracers in medical imaging. Small and medium enterprises, as well as voluntary, community, and social enterprises, are particularly well-suited to exploring this market, potentially benefiting from niche service offerings or ancillary supply opportunities relating to the PET-CT tracer industry category. These entities could leverage expertise in digital imaging, healthcare supply chain management, or radiopharmaceutical logistics to engage in relevant collaborations that align with the NHS's strategic needs and enhance patient care standards.

### Procurement Information

The NHSE PET contract has PETNET as the primary supplier for PET FDG doses. The department does not run separate lists for PP and NHS patients, therefore a separate supply contract for PP patients would require staff to be swapping vials each time the patient category changed. This is a risk to safety for two reasons: 1. Patient Safety - changing vials between patients could potentially lead to the patients being injected with the incorrect vial. 2. Staff safety - due to the limitations of the space, staff would need to swap vials between patients which would increase their exposure to radiation as there is not space to load two supplier vials simultaneously. Furthermore, the workspace is not sufficient to house the additional packaging which would result from having multiple suppliers and would be a trip hazard in an already difficult working environment. The cost to expand the department would be significant and therefore would not be of Financial benefit to the Trust.
