## Summary

Reading Borough Council has initiated a tender process titled "Targeted Short Breaks Framework" aimed at providing social work and related services primarily for disabled children. This tender falls under the services category within the UK region UKJ11. The procurement process is at the tender stage, with expressions of interest required by 25 March 2026. The framework is governed by the Children’s Act 1989 and related regulations, and it mandates supporting the continuation of care by providing breaks for carers of disabled children. Interested suppliers can view and express interest through the Council's designated online portal with a subsequent submission deadline set for the same date. The procurement employs an open procedure, where the selection criteria are evenly balanced between quality and price.

This tender provides significant opportunities for businesses specialising in social services, particularly those with expertise in delivering community and specialist short breaks for children. Suitable businesses include small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs), making it inclusive for a range of providers in this sector. The contract is scheduled to commence on 1 June 2026, concluding on 31 May 2028, with the possibility of extension of up to 24 additional months. This framework offers a robust platform to enhance service delivery capabilities and foster business growth through repeated opportunities and established partnerships with Reading Borough Council until 2030.
