## Summary

The procurement process for the urgent award of pathology sample analysis and reporting services has been undertaken by the Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust. This process pertains to the healthcare industry, specifically focusing on pathology services, and the awarded contract is located within the United Kingdom. The procurement is at the award stage under the Provider Selection Regime, with the contract starting on 26 February 2026. This urgent contract is critical to maintaining pathology services without interruption and falls outside the scope of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015.

This tender presents an opportunity for businesses operating in the healthcare sector, particularly those specialising in clinical and pathology services. Given the urgent nature and clinical criticality of the demand, businesses capable of providing integrated pathology sample analysis services could find potential for growth and collaboration. Entities that can offer seamless integration with existing healthcare systems like RiO and manage complex transport arrangements will be well-positioned to secure similar opportunities in the future. The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust was identified as the supplier due to the constraints of running a competitive process and the necessity for continuity and immediate need.

## Notice

Urgent Award Contract - Pathology Sample Analysis and Reporting (blood, urine and other patient diagnostic samples).

### Lot Information

Lot 1

This urgent award under the Provider Selection Regime is required to maintain continuity of a clinically critical pathology sample analysis service. Any interruption would present a direct risk to patient safety. It is not practicable to run a competitive process currently due to operational and clinical constraints, including integration with RiO and transport arrangements. Awarding to the incumbent provider represents the least-risk option. The proposed contract is time-limited to six months, with an optional six-month extension to allow a compliant longer-term procurement to be completed. The value of the contract, if full 12 month option is utilised, is PS647,569.00 ex VAT. The start date of the contract is date of last signature, 26/02/2026.
