## Summary

The University of Edinburgh, a prominent institution located in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, has completed the procurement process for a service contract titled "Cameca IMS 7F Geo Service Contract". This procurement falls under the services category, specifically aimed at repair and maintenance services of measuring, testing, and checking apparatus. The award stage has been reached, with the service contract which expired on 28 February 2026, signed on 1 March 2026. The procurement method employed was limited, specifically an award procedure without prior publication due to technical reasons. This contract serves the School of GeoSciences at the university, ensuring operational reliability for the CAMECA IMS 7f-GEO instrument essential for Earth's and Environmental Science research across the UK.

This contract presents significant opportunities for businesses that specialise in scientific equipment maintenance, particularly those capable of supplying OEM-exclusive components or technical support. As CAMECA is the sole provider for this specific equipment, companies that have established partnerships with CAMECA or possess niche expertise in geological and environmental scientific apparatus will find this contract especially relevant. The 36-month Gold service agreement, alongside potential additional coverage, underscores the critical commitment to uninterrupted analytical services, allowing businesses involved in specialised maintenance and support to leverage this contract for sustained business growth within the UK scientific research community.

## Notice

The School of GeoSciences operates a CAMECA IMS 7f-GEO instrument to deliver a national analytical service for Earth and Environmental Science researchers across the UK under the management of NERC. The system was installed and formally accepted in February 2019 with an initial three-year warranty, followed by three one-year extended warranty periods in 2022, 2023 and 2024. The current service contract expires on 28 February 2026. To ensure continued operational reliability and avoid disruption to this nationally important facility, a 36-month Gold service agreement, together with RF source replacement, is required. As CAMECA is the sole manufacturer and provider of proprietary components and technical support, all replacement parts must be sourced directly from them. The proposed 36-month renewal will maintain instrument performance, safeguard research continuity, and enable the ongoing provision of analytical services to the UK Earth and Environmental Science community. An optional additional 36-month coverage period is available should extended support be required.
