## Summary

The NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board is progressing with the Community Pharmacy COVID-19 Triage, Assessment & Prescribing Service. This initiative is classified under pharmacy services and aims to transition antiviral drugs for COVID-19 into a community setting, extending the service from secondary to private care providers in South Yorkshire (region UKE3). The procurement method follows a limited procedure without prior publication of a competitive call. Currently, the contract is at the award stage, with Associated Chemists (Wicker) Ltd identified as the preferred supplier. This contract notice, published in April 2026, serves as an intention to award, with a standstill period until 5th May 2026. The awarded contract is valued at £40,000, set to operate from 1st June 2026 through 31st May 2028.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for pharmacies wishing to expand their service offerings and develop specialist knowledge in COVID-19 triage and prescribing. The procurement process involves assessing providers on key criteria of quality, innovation, cost, and social value, aiming to enhance access to care and address health inequalities. Ideal candidates include community pharmacies with a readiness to train staff for more sophisticated service delivery. The project supports patient care by guaranteeing safe, timely access to treatment, encouraging participation from SMEs, as evidenced by the interest of eight bidders, all SMEs, in the tender phase.

The ICB is committed to establishing prescribing services through community pharmacies and procurement of this service is an opportunity for contractors interested in delivering prescribing services to develop their workforce to gain specialist knowledge for the assessment and prescribing of COVID-19.
