## Summary

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Nottinghamshire recently completed a tendering process for the procurement of a cannabis biodigester. The contract was awarded to Power Knot (UK) Ltd, a small or medium-sized enterprise. This procurement aimed to secure a machine capable of processing approximately 20 tonnes of cannabis plant material annually, converting it into grey water under environmental regulations. The procurement method was an open competition, with the contract valued at £46,600. Located in the Nottinghamshire region, the contract covers the period from 13th April 2026 to 12th April 2027, reflecting a recent finalisation date of 13th May 2026. This process was primarily in the industrial machinery category, evidencing the strategic investments by Nottinghamshire Police in environmentally compliant destruction methods.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities for businesses specialising in industrial machinery and environmental technologies. Small and medium-sized enterprises, particularly those offering innovative solutions that meet rigorous operational and environmental standards, would be well-suited to such opportunities. The contract's focus on environmentally friendly practices through the secure and efficient disposal of cannabis plant materials aligns well with the evolving market demand for sustainable solutions. Establishing a presence in public sector contracts like this can bolster a company's credentials and open doors to further opportunities in governmental tenders, especially for those businesses looking to expand their portfolio in the secure waste disposal sector.

## Notice

Nottinghamshire Police ("the contracting authority") wishes to procure a cannabis biodigester that renders seized cannabis plant material non-recoverable, converting it to grey water for lawful discharge under UK based environmental legislation. The machine must be able to digest "fresh" plants as well as dried leaves with "gummy" edible cannabis products optional but preferred if possible. The machine must be able to handle ~20 tonnes per year. Suppliers must size the unit to meet or exceed this throughput. Suppliers must also note if fresh cannabis plants must be shredded or could be to improve machine efficiency. The unit will be installed at a secure police site and operated by trained police staff under chain-of-custody controls - it must therefore on machine show volumes digested with tamper proof logs preferred but optional. Odour control: sealed drum/process with no persistent odour in normal operation.
