## Summary

Salford City Council has awarded a contract through an urgent procurement process for the "Chemsex support pilot 2026-27" in the health services category. This initiative aims to tackle the public health issues related to chemsex, which have emerged as urgent concerns requiring immediate action to mitigate risks to public safety. The procurement method was limited, allowing for an award without prior publication due to unforeseen urgency. The contract, signed on 26 March 2026, is valued at £60,614 and is located in the UKD34 region, Manchester. The Council decided to make the award urgently because of escalated risks associated with chemsex-related harms.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in public health services. Organisations that can offer multidisciplinary approaches and innovative solutions for managing public health crises would find this procurement particularly suitable. SMEs like the LGBT Foundation, which won the award, exemplify the kind of agile, responsive service providers that could thrive under such exigent conditions. Health service providers with expertise in addiction treatment and community health support might leverage this opportunity to expand their offerings and establish themselves as key stakeholders in urgently addressing emerging public health challenges.

## Notice

Based on the limited information on this issue further data is needed to build evidence for chemsex need in Salford, to improve monitoring and reporting, inform a long-term approach to addressing harms and prevention efforts, and minimise the risk of further harm or mortality linked to chemsex.
