## Summary

Newcastle City Council is planning a procurement process titled "Denton Flood Alleviation Scheme," aimed at mitigating flooding risks in Newcastle upon Tyne. This project, part of a broader effort, has identified several areas at risk for surface water flooding, and measures are being designed to reduce these risks. The procurement process is currently in the planning stage, with a Pipeline Notice published. The council is preparing to invite tenders in September 2026, with the opportunity to tender for a design and build contract for phases three to six of the project. The contract will encompass various sustainable drainage solutions and measures across different phases. Estimated to be valued at £5,105,000, the procurement applies the open procedure method and falls under the "works" industry category. Interested suppliers should register via the OPEN Procurement Portal for updates.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in flood prevention and landscape solutions. Companies with expertise in sustainable urban drainage systems and nature-based solutions will find the project suitable to their capabilities. The opportunity is particularly appealing to contracting firms that can offer design and build services, especially those experienced in urban and civil engineering projects. The planned open procedure facilitates access for various businesses to compete for the contract, promoting business growth through collaboration with Newcastle City Council on this substantial infrastructure effort. Successful engagement could lead to further opportunities with the council, given their proactive approach to flood management in the region.

## Notice

Newcastle City Council (NCC) has secured funding for a major flood alleviation project in the Denton area of Newcastle upon Tyne that will better protect 198 properties from surface water flooding. We have identified 17 "at risk" locations where appropriate measures will reduce that risk. The project is being split over 7 phases: phases 1,2 and 7 will be delivered in-house; phases 3-6 involve larger measures which will require some external design work and an external contractor(s) for all construction work. These phases are made up of the following measures: Phase 3 - Retrofit SuDS basins ranging from 50m3 to 300m3. Phase 4 - North East Catchment SuDS measures including permeable paving, raingardens, bunds and nature-based solutions, grouped for proximity. Phase 5 - Large SuDS basins and Nature Based Solutions Phase 6 - Permeable paving and underground tanks NCC will be asking interested providers around September 2026 to tender for a design and build contract for Phases 3-6 of the project. Phases 4 and 5 will be designed in-house at NCC; Phases 3 and 6 will require an external consultant. Landscape design will also be undertaken in-house at NCC. This pipeline notice is for information only. At this stage, no further details are available beyond what is published here. When this opportunity progresses, a Tender Notice will be published on the Central Digital Platform. If Newcastle City Council seeks early engagement, a Market Engagement Notice will be issued at that time, along with any relevant information. Suppliers are advised to register on the OPEN Procurement Portal to receive updates and notifications as they become available: www.open-uk.org We appreciate your interest and understanding
