## Summary

The North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust has awarded a contract for Out of Area Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) placement under the Health Care Services Provider Selection Regime (PSR) Regulations 2023. This contract, with reference number LD/RB39, was signed on 3rd April 2026, with a total estimated cost of £27,692.00. The procurement falls under the psychiatric hospital services industry category and serves a highly specialised sector involving inpatient mental health care for severely disturbed patients. The award procedure was conducted without prior publication of a call for competition due to the specialised nature of the service and necessity for immediate placement, making it suitable for a limited procurement method. The contract with Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal will provide specialist care services for an estimated nominal period of four weeks, located in the UKD35 region, with daily patient reviews and repatriation plans as appropriate.

This tender opens avenues for businesses experienced in providing psychiatric intensive care services, especially those tailored for acute mental health disorders. Given the specificity and urgency of the contract requirements, including the need for immediate service provision, qualified providers of psychiatric care could take advantage of such opportunities by ensuring readiness for spot purchasing arrangements. Businesses with large-scale or niche mental health care facilities, particularly those with previous NHS procurement experience, would be well-positioned to compete for similar contracts in the future, fostering business growth through expertise in handling complex patient care needs and adaptability to direct award processes.
