## Summary

This procurement process involves NHS England, the buying organisation, and outlines a contract award for healthcare services concerning Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) under the Provider Selection Regime (PSR). The contracting stage is award, with contracts signed on 16th December 2025 and services commencing on 1st April 2026. This initiative focuses on providing specialised healthcare services across the United Kingdom, categorised under health services (CPV: 85100000). The procurement method employed was a direct award process without prior publication, as the regime falls outside the scope of standard directives. The nominated healthcare service providers include major NHS trusts across the UK regions, including Nottingham, Liverpool, Newcastle, Cambridge, Oxford, and others.

The contract provides opportunities for large healthcare organisations with the capacity to deliver complex services and infrastructure for conditions like TTP, enabling them to further expand their service offerings and establish specialised care units. This procurement directly appoints NHS Foundation Trusts, signifying exclusive opportunities primarily for those already established within the healthcare sector, thereby fostering growth in specialised healthcare capabilities and cementing partnerships within the NHS landscape. The high-value service requirements necessitate providers with comprehensive specialist teams, particularly those adept in rapid treatment protocols, educational outreach programmes, and comprehensive aftercare strategies.

## Notice

Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) is a serious blood disorder with rapid onset, that results in blood clots forming in small blood vessels throughout the body. It affects the kidneys, heart and brain.
The condition can be difficult to diagnose because initial presentation can be non-specific, and this is a very rare disease. Rapid treatment is essential for optimal outcomes and includes plasma exchange and a range of drugs. This disease primarily affects adults. Children are treated in paediatric haematology centres with support from the adult specialists. Specialist aftercare is also required. Services are required to have a programme of outreach and education to improve timely diagnosis and referral. There is a small population with a congenital form of the disease who require ongoing treatment and monitoring.
Patients need to be able to access specialist care with 24/7 access to apheresis and a specialist team. Patients need to start in treatment within 4/8 hours of a referral to the specialist centre.
