## Summary

Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust has awarded a contract for the "Hepatitis C ‘Follow Me’ Peer Programme and Hep C van extension" to the Hepatitis C Trust. This public procurement is focused on developing a peer network to provide education and support within community services. The procurement falls under the services category, specifically health and social work services, and is located in Nottingham, United Kingdom. The direct award method was used due to the specific expertise required and long-standing relationship between the Trust and the Hepatitis C Trust. Key dates include the contract period starting from 4th June 2026 to 31st March 2027, with the procurement being part of efforts to meet the NHS England target of eliminating hepatitis C by 2030.

For businesses interested in supporting public health initiatives, this tender represents a significant opportunity to engage with community-focused health services. Companies with experience in health education, community outreach, and support for vulnerable populations are well-suited to such contracts. Organisations capable of providing peer-based support services can leverage such opportunities to expand their portfolio in the healthcare sector, contributing to impactful public health goals. The contract underscores a strategic focus on innovative community engagement methods that can drive both public good and business growth.

## Notice

The Project involves the development of a network of peers within community services and hostel settings to deliver regular hepatitis C education that incorporates key prevention, diagnosis, linkage to care and treatment messages. The Provider will identify peers and train and support them to deliver education interventions and provide one to one buddy support, in particular to newly diagnosed people and those accessing treatment.

### Procurement Information

The Hepatitis C Trust are a charity with specific expertise regarding hepatitis C. An SLA has existed between NUH and The Hepatitis C Trust for many years. This TQ1 would cover the renewal of a Peer Lead, Peer Van Driver, Peer Programme Manager and a van contract. We use peers to engage hard to reach patients in the community who often experience homelessness, substance misuse and incarceration. These patients are very time consuming. Initial engagement is protracted and these patients will require support throughout their 8-12 week treatment course and require follow-up 12 weeks post completion for a final blood test. Peers are able to relate to patients and represent better value for money than using band 7 nurses (as nurses are freed up to run hospital clinics). This is a contract for a further year taking us up to March 2027. The NHSE elimination target is 2025, however it seems this nationwide target that has not been met, and so we expect the need the Operational Delivery Network and for peers to continue a little longer as the global target is elimination by 2030 (as set by the World Health Organisation). The cost of Peers has been agreed between NHS England and The Hepatitis C Trust.
