## Summary

The British Library is currently in the Planning stage for procuring a SaaS Managed File Transfer (MFT) solution, intended to streamline their data transfer processes. This procurement process, initiated on 14 May 2026, seeks to replace fragmented mechanisms with a scalable, secure, and auditable digital file transfer platform capable of handling multi-terabyte size data. The process falls under the services industry category, specifically file security software development services, with a regional focus in the United Kingdom. Key dates include an initial response deadline on 5 June 2026 and a conclusion date for the Request for Information (RFI) on 19 June 2026. The preliminary market engagement notice reflects the British Library's aim to facilitate better collaboration with external partners by addressing challenges related to variable partner technology capabilities.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for businesses involved in SaaS and digital transfer solutions to expand their market presence. Companies specialising in file transfer software development, integration services, or data security stand to benefit from competing for this contract. Those with experience in providing scalable and automated file transfer solutions that are compatible with a diverse array of partner capabilities will find this opportunity particularly aligned with their offerings. By engaging in this procurement process, businesses can potentially become key partners for a central government public authority, thereby enhancing their reputation and expertise within this critical industry area.

## Notice

The British Library's current fragmented transfer mechanisms are inefficient and does not meet our current needs. We are seeking a SaaS Managed File Transfer (MFT) platform to provide a standardized secure, controlled, auditable, automated and scalable digital file transfer to handle multi-terabyte size data. This solution should strengthen collaboration with external partners and address persistent challenges such as variable partner technology capabilities and inconsistent practices. The purpose of this exercise is to refresh our understanding of the MFT tools currently available, that will enable the British Library to continue its progress toward a more standardised approach. This includes ensuring we can meet the data transfers needs both internally and externally - a variety of file formats including images and recordings, be broadly compatible with partners of diverse size partners (single donors, large publishers, private and public business), reporting and auditing, as well as the key business processes and capabilities that will underpin organisational planning and decision-making during this period.
