## Summary

The London Borough of Havering has awarded a contract for the provision of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) aimed at assisting children and young people to access the curriculum and communicate. This procurement process falls under the industry category of medical aids and equipment, with a focus on assistive technology, and is designated under the legal framework of the UKPGA. The procurement stage is currently marked as 'complete', with the contract awarded through a direct procurement method. The contract, starting on 2nd June 2026 and ending on 30th June 2027, is designated for execution in Romford, within the UKI52 region, ensuring it complies with statutory requirements for children with complex communication needs as part of their Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).

This tender creates substantial opportunities for businesses in the medical aids and assistive technology sectors, especially for those capable of delivering specialised assessments and equipment provisioning. Enterprises that are equipped to engage with public sector demands for statutory compliance under the Children and Families Act (2014) will find this project particularly beneficial to their portfolio. The direct award process implies a prestigious business opportunity for those suppliers already established or seeking to establish themselves as specialists within this niche, with the contract valued at £510,000 (net of taxes). Companies able to support educational institutions in catering to special educational needs and disabilities will find an advantageous growth path through participation in similar future procurement processes.
