## Summary

The procurement process initiated by Natural England involves creating a Border Stone Feature for the KCIII ECP into the Welsh Coastal Path, as detailed in the tender titled "Natural England Border Stone Feature". The project falls under the industry category of goods, particularly miscellaneous building stone, and encompasses regions within the United Kingdom, including the North West and North East borders into Scotland. The contract was awarded directly in a procurement method classified as "Below threshold - without competition" and spans a period starting on 27th February 2026 and concluding on 31st March 2026. The award and contracting stages of the process are complete as of 19th May 2026. Natural England, with headquarters at Seacole Building, Marsham Street, London, serves as the buying organisation, while the supplier is H Cartmel and M Johnson, located in Styrrup, United Kingdom.

This tender presents significant opportunities for business growth for companies specialised in stone fabrication and installation, particularly those capable of handling projects involving custom-designed plaques and border features. Businesses operating as small to medium enterprises (SMEs) would find this contract particularly well-suited, given the project's scale and procurement method that favours lower competition thresholds. Firms with experience in collaborating with public authorities and understanding regional land considerations will also benefit, expanding their portfolios with prestigious projects covering cross-national borders. Additionally, businesses aiming to establish a foothold in government contracts might find the direct procurement approach advantageous, providing a pathway to future opportunities with central government projects.

## Notice

To provide a uniform Border Feature for walkers crossing into England, Scotland and Wales. The border crossing on the KCIII ECP into the Welsh Coastal Path features a border stone with fabricated plaques affixed on either side, signifying the crossing into each country. These plaques were designed, fabricated and installed by Mr Johnson in 2023. We will be replicating this at the North West border and the North East Border into Scotland. A chosen site location will be agreed between the relevant parties and landowners (if applicable).
