## Summary

NHS England has completed a procurement process for a service titled "NHS Breast Screening - Support for management of Very High Risk (VHR) Women." This procurement falls under the health services industry category and is located in London, United Kingdom. The process was at the award and contract stage, with the contract becoming active on 2nd June 2026 and concluding on 3rd June 2026. The procurement method employed was direct, categorized as "Below threshold - without competition," indicating a straightforward contractual arrangement for specialised services. The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, based in Manchester, was awarded this contract, focusing on medical specialist services and health services.

This tender presents significant opportunities for organisations specialising in medical services, particularly those experienced in breast screening and the management of very high-risk patient groups. The project's focus on the BARD (Breast Cancer Database) to ensure timely and effective screening underscores the importance of specialised medical knowledge and database management capabilities. Large-scale health services providers, like The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, demonstrated suitability due to their capacity to handle both the medical and logistical components of such specialised projects. Companies with expertise in medical data management and oncology service provision are apt candidates for similar future opportunities to collaborate with central government public authorities like NHS England.

## Notice

BARD is a confidential database of women in England who have received radiotherapy involving breast tissue before the age of 36. It has been set up to make sure all those at risk can be informed of screening options at the right time. Current national guidelines recommend that screening should start 8 years after radiotherapy to breast tissue or at age 25 or 30 (depending on circumstances), whichever occurs later. In addition to making sure that screening appointments arrive at the right time, BARD will allow monitoring of the effectiveness of screening. There will be a small number of women who have received radiotherapy to breast tissue as part of a treatment plan for diagnoses other than lymphoma. In these instances, the BARD non-lymphoma patient referral form should be completed by a consultant clinical oncologist to refer the patient to BARD. The BARD team then organise breast screening in line with national guidelines.
