## Summary

The procurement process undertaken by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) involves the "Further Update of the UK's POPs Multi-Media Emission Inventory 2026-2029". This contract falls under the environmental services industry category and is situated primarily in the United Kingdom. The procurement was conducted using a selective method, specifically awarded under a framework. Key dates include the contract start on 5th May 2026 and its conclusion on 4th May 2029, with relevant entries in the procurement stages displayed as complete, under both tender and award tags. The total gross contract amount is valued at £269,922.45.

This procurement represents a growth opportunity for businesses involved in environmental services, particularly those capable of addressing complex legal and regulatory frameworks like the UN Stockholm Convention for Persistent Organic Pollutants. Large-scale enterprises with the capability to offer innovative solutions for monitoring and updating emission inventories, similar to WSP UK Limited, which has been awarded the contract, would find this contract especially beneficial. The opportunity facilitates engagement with central government procurement procedures, allowing businesses to strengthen their portfolio and reputation in environmental consultancy and compliance services.

## Notice

Background - The UK is a party to the UN Stockholm Convention for Persistent Organic Pollutants (POP's). The Stockholm Convention is a global treaty which is there to protect human health and the environment from chemicals that remain intact in the environment for long periods. These chemicals become widely distributed geographically and accumulate in the fatty tissues of humans and wildlife and have potentially harmful impacts on both human health and the wider environment. Our Aim - Through this contract we aim to assist the UK in meeting some of the obligation to the Stockholm Convention and the POPs UK domestic regulations and in addition meeting the commitments made in the UK's National Implementation Plan (NIP) for POP's and producing evidence for the England 25 Year Environment Plan indicators.
