## Summary

The Food Standards Agency is undertaking a procurement process titled "EU harmonised surveillance of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) E. coli and Salmonella found in fresh beef and pork meat on retail sale in the UK in 2027." This initiative, located in the United Kingdom, falls under the Research and development consultancy services category and is currently in the tender stage. The tender, with an end date for submission on 31st July 2026, is valued at £210,000 (net of VAT). The procurement method adopted is an open procedure, allowing submissions via the health-family single eCommercial System. The contract includes two lots focusing on survey design, sample collection, and microbiological testing. The Food Standards Agency, based in York, seeks to address food safety by reducing foodborne diseases through methodical research.

This tender offers significant business growth opportunities, particularly for companies specialised in research and development consultancy, laboratory services, and data analysis. Businesses involved can leverage this project to enhance their portfolios and gain expertise in tackling antimicrobial resistance in the food chain. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) are encouraged to participate, either independently or through consortiums. With the contract set to commence in October 2026 and ending by February 2028 with possible renewal, successful bidders can expect to expand their service offerings and engage in meaningful government-supported research, aiding both public health and their growth trajectories.

## Notice

The objective of microbiological food safety research themes is to provide robust information on the presence, growth, survival, and elimination of pathogenic microorganisms throughout the food chain; the extent, distribution, causes, risks and burden of foodborne disease will also be considered where appropriate. The reduction of foodborne disease has been one of FSA's key objectives in ensuring food safety. The reduction of foodborne disease is a continuing priority, ensuring that food produced and sold in the UK is safe to eat. We are taking a targeted approach to the control and reduction of individual pathogens, with the aim of reducing the overall burden of foodborne disease in the UK. Lot 1. Survey design, sample collection at retail and transportation to the testing laboratory Lot 2. Microbiological testing, data analysis, reporting and archiving of recovered bacteria and their AMR profile

### Lot Information
