## Summary

The Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Executive, trading as Nexus, has initiated a procurement process to refurbish the South Gosforth Control Centre in Newcastle upon Tyne. The project seeks to create a fit-for-purpose working environment that aligns with Nexus Places principles, involving extensive refurbishment needs such as accessibility, traffic management, drainage, fire protection, and security system improvements. The refurbishment is expected to commence on 1st January 2027 and conclude by 1st January 2030, during which the facility must remain operational 24/7. Currently in the planning stage, potential suppliers are invited to participate in a Preliminary Market Engagement (PME), with expressions of interest due by 10th July 2026 and an engagement event on 14th July 2026. The procurement process follows the framework of the UK Public General Acts (UKPGA) 2023/54, and the estimated contract value is £9.6 million gross.

This tender offers significant opportunities for businesses in the construction and civil engineering sectors, particularly those experienced in design and build contracts. SMEs are encouraged to participate, suggesting a commitment to inclusive business engagement. The complex scope, including mechanical and electrical upgrades, security enhancements, and ICT system improvements, makes this contract suitable for firms with a broad range of services and capabilities in infrastructure refurbishment and operational continuity planning. Companies capable of managing projects without disrupting 24/7 operations will particularly find this opportunity rewarding and aligned with their strategic growth objectives.
