## Summary

The procurement process for Thames Water Utilities Limited, the UK's largest water and wastewater service provider, involves an active tender titled "Waste Management," situated in Reading, UK, with operations extending into the London and Thames Valley areas. The tender is currently in the procurement stage and seeks to engage reliable and innovative partners for managing substantial waste streams generated across approximately 150 sites. Key dates to note include the deadline for submitting the Procurement Specific Questionnaire (PSQ) by 28th August 2026. This open procurement adopts a competitive flexible procedure, under a utilities special regime, and is structured into lots covering various waste services, including screenings, grit, ash, metals, hazardous, and multi-waste management, with a contract duration potentially extending up to 8 years.

This tender presents extensive opportunities for businesses specialising in waste management services, particularly those capable of providing innovative recycling solutions as Thames Water prioritises landfill diversion. Suitable businesses might include firms with expertise in handling large volumes of waste, offering recycling, reuse, and disposal services, and those capable of meeting specific lot requirements such as grit recycling or hazardous waste disposal. With no cap on the number of lots a supplier can be awarded, there is significant scope for growth for versatile companies across the waste management industry, particularly those bringing advanced technological solutions to waste handling and recycling processes.

## Notice

Thames Water is the UK's largest water and wastewater service company. Every day we supply around 2,600 million litres of tap water to 9 million customers across London and the Thames Valley. We also remove and treat more than 4 billion litres of sewage for 16 million customers. In everything we do, we follow Thames Water's purpose and values. Our operations generate significant volumes of waste, particularly material and grit removed from customer and council wastewater. This represents the largest waste stream across our sites, and recycling is prioritised wherever possible over landfill. At Beckton Sewage Treatment Works in Barking, London-one of our largest sites-we operate an incinerator to process biowaste. This produces ash as a by-product, which is currently collected and all ash collected from the silos is recycled. In addition, our sites generate construction waste, recyclables, metals and hazardous materials, all of which require reliable collection and safe disposal to ensure continuous operations. We are seeking dependable, innovative partners to support approximately 150 sites, keeping them running efficiently while developing alternative re use solutions to minimise landfill dependency. To ensure all waste streams are fully serviced, we have implemented the lotting structure set out below: * Lot 1a - Screenings & Grit (Grab-Lorry) * Estimated annual volumes: 19,500 - 23,500 tonnes * Lot 1b - Screenings & Grit (Skips) * Estimated annual volumes: 11,000 - 15,000 tonnes * Lot 2 - Ash * Estimated annual volumes: 4,500 - 5,000 tonnes * Lot 3a - Metals * Estimated annual volumes: 500 - 700 tonnes * Lot 3b - Hazardous * Estimated annual volumes: 120-150 tonnes * Lot 3c - Multi-Waste * Estimated annual volumes: 5000-5500 tonnes Please note: There will be no limit on the number of lots a supplier may be awarded. Thames Water reserves the right to refine the award criteria. Please note that that deadline for asking for access to the PSQ & submitting of the PSQ is 28th August, 2026 at 12 noon.

Emphasis placed on the recycling (or landfill diversion) of grit, with suppliers expected to provide washing/treatment and recycling facilities either in house or as a subcontracted service. Estimated number of sites serviced: 48-78. Estimated volume of screenings and grit waste per year for these sites: 19,500 - 23,700 tonnes. Collections are usually at agreed frequencies, with some ad-hoc callouts required. This work in this lot will be split between two awarded suppliers, who will share the work through the contract duration. Work will be split between awarded suppliers on a site-by-site basis, accounting for geography and any directly relevant considerations. Thames Water retains to right to re-allocate individual site ownership between awarded suppliers within this lot based on key performance mechanisms measured throughout the term of this agreement. The performance mechanisms will be released alongside the tender documentation. Range given for annual tonnage, as some number of sites currently using skip collections will transfer to grab lorry collections (increasing annual tonnage). For a full detailed description of services required under this lot, please see the work specification tender documents.
