The abstraction is controlled by a weir at the upstream end of the Mill Leat (\"the Weir\"). Deterioration of the Weir structure has resulted in flows bypassing the crest, leading to inadequate water levels in the River Otter for the adjacent Head Weir fish pass and eel pass to function effectively.
