## Summary

The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust has successfully concluded a procurement process to secure a pathology managed service for the Midlands & East 2 Network. This award, part of the healthcare services sector, centres on pathology services identified under the CPV classification 85111800. The procurement process followed a limited procurement method, falling under the NHS Supply Chain Framework Agreement for Laboratory Diagnostics and Related Services. Signed on 4th June 2026, the contract's first phase is valued at approximately £32 million, with potential to reach £156 million, encompassing various NHS Trusts across the UK region, including the delivery of comprehensive pathology services. The initial 10-year contract is active and may extend for an additional 2 years, linking multiple NHS Trusts within the region to the successful supplier, Roche Diagnostics Ltd.

This procurement presents substantial business growth opportunities for suppliers within the medical diagnostics and healthcare service sectors. The comprehensive nature of the contract, which includes both general and specialised pathology services, positions this as an attractive engagement for businesses involved in laboratory diagnostics, point of care testing, and related pathology services. The involvement of a large-scale supplier like Roche Diagnostics Ltd highlights the scope and potential demand for innovative solutions and efficient service delivery. Small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) specialising in niche areas such as immunology, microbiology, and data management systems may find opportunities to collaborate as sub-contractors, especially in the Phase 2 sub-disciplines, creating pathways for new partnerships and enhancing service delivery quality within the participating NHS Trusts.
