## Summary

The public procurement process is being initiated by UK Fusion Energy Ltd, based in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, focusing on the development of an Isotope Adjustment System—Thermal Cycling Absorption Process. This process is essential for advancing their STEP Fuel Cycle project, which aims to adjust isotopic compositions within a fuel cycle integral to their operations expected in the 2040s. The procurement is currently in the planning stage, with a market engagement notice requiring responses by 2nd September 2026. The project falls under industry categories including research, testing, scientific technical simulators, and industrial machinery, highlighting the significant research and experimental development opportunities available for interested participants in the United Kingdom.

This tender presents substantial opportunities for businesses involved in scientific research, industrial machinery manufacturing, and specialised technology development. Companies in these sectors can leverage their expertise in isotopic separation technologies and closed-loop fuel cycle processes to align with UK Fusion Energy Ltd's long-term strategic goals. Engaging with this procurement process not only offers potential growth via contributing to a cutting-edge scientific initiative but also builds a relationship with a prominent public undertaking in the UK. Interested businesses can gain insights and provide input that may shape the future procurement requirements, positioning themselves as key players in upcoming project developments.

## Notice

UKFE is looking to develop the ability of TCAP within a Fuel Cycle to adjust the isotopic composition of tritium, deuterium and separate protium of continuous mixed isotopic feed within the STEP Fuel Cycle to ensure the delivery of STEP within the 2040s. To support this goal, the fuel cycle will perform a closed loop process: it will inject fuel into the plasma, capture the unspent fuel from the exhaust, purify it, separate and re-inject it within the plasma, ensuring efficient tritium recycling. There are multiple gas separations to be performed within the fuel cycle system, for which testing is required in some areas to support the appropriate selection and design of separation technologies.
