## Summary

The Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has completed a procurement process for medical imaging services, specifically MRI support, under the urgent circumstances provision. The contract was awarded to Ramsay Health Care UK Operations Limited to address a critical need for additional MRI capacity due to equipment failure that has significantly reduced service availability. This temporary contract, initiated under the Provider Selection Regime Regulations 2023, aims to supplement capacity for 12 weeks, commencing 29th June 2026, with services provided one day per week at an agreed cost. The procurement method employed was a limited procedure without prior publication, addressing urgent healthcare delivery issues at Cheltenham General Hospital and Gloucester Royal Hospital, both located in the UKK1 region.

This contract presents business growth opportunities, especially for healthcare service providers adept in swift operational scaling to meet urgent demands. Businesses equipped to offer supplementary medical services, such as diagnostic imaging, can find fertile ground in similar contracts. Ramsay Health Care UK, a large-scale provider, exemplifies the type of company well-suited to responding to such urgent procurement needs, leveraging existing facilities and personnel to deliver essential services with minimal lead time. Firms in the healthcare logistics and staffing sectors might also explore collaboration opportunities to address logistical and operational requirements arising from these kinds of urgent procurement scenarios.

## Notice

Provision of additional MRI capacity to GHFT for 1 day per week at an agreed cost of PS5,500 per day.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

MRI scans will be provided to GHFT patients from Winfield Hospital - Ramsay Heath Care 1 day a week for 12 weeks.
Due to unforeseen circumstances and the risk to patients, this contract has been awarded under the Provider Selection Regime Urgent Award.
The lifetime value of the contract will be PS66,000 for 12 weeks support, 1 day a week from 29th June 2026

### Procurement Information

Due to the air handling units failure as they are no longer able to maintain humidity within the required safe scanning range. This has severely and unexpectedly affected MRI capacity at both CGH and GRH and as a result MRI provision for the county currently operating at approximately 25% of normal capacity with only one of the four scanners available. Without additional capacity would crease significant breach position and materially impact cancer and stroke pathways. All internal options to increase capacity have been exhausted. The remaining operational scanner at GRH is already being used for extended hours, up to 16 hours per day, seven days a week, during periods when the other three scanners are unavailable. Therefore, the only option is to seek additional capacity by outsourcing to a local provider in order to ensure that GHNHSFT patients are able to access MRI scans and ensure patient flow is able to be maintained. Additional capacity is only being sought as a temporary measure for 12 weeks.
