## Summary

The Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas) is currently in the tender stage for a project titled "CEFAS26-83 Request for Quotation for Controllable Plant Growth Chamber". This procurement involves the purchase of a plant growth chamber for microalgal cultures under controlled conditions. The organisation is a public authority within the sub-central government sector, located in Lowestoft, United Kingdom. The contract is valued at £30,000 gross, and bids are due by 7th August 2026. Businesses interested should note that the enquiry period ends on 30th July 2026. The procurement method is open competition, specifically below-threshold, facilitating a wide range of submissions from interested parties.

This tender offers significant growth opportunities for businesses specialising in laboratory equipment and precision instruments, particularly those adept at supplying controlled environment chambers. Companies that focus on features like consistent temperature and lighting control for biological growth can find this opportunity particularly lucrative. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs), are encouraged to apply, given the suitability criteria. The contract period spans from 4th September 2026 to 30th November 2026, providing a concise time frame for completing the project. Suppliers capable of delivering high-quality, reliable growth chambers with capacity for sustaining marine microalgal cultures will be well-suited to compete for this contract.

## Notice

Cefas requires a plant growth chamber for the growth of microalgal cultures under controlled conditions. The chamber needs to provide consistent lighting and temperature throughout with several shelves to allow for high efficiency growth of cultures held in tissue culture flasks. The cultures need to be maintained for prolonged periods of time with growth conditions optimised towards maximum achievable cell growth rates and densities. A large internal capacity is required in order to maintain a high number of culture flasks of either the same or multiple species of marine microalgae and freshwater cyanobacteria. Options for gas or electrical lines into the unit are desirable but not essential. The unit will be expected to operate in a laboratory environment with external temperatures between 15-25 degC. As the primary use will be for the growth of marine microalgal cultures in seawater growth media, the unit will need to be able to operat
