## Summary

The Met Office, a public authority central government entity located in Exeter, has completed the procurement for the renewal of its Single Source Maintenance (SSM) requirements. This contract, titled "Single Source Maintenance Renewal," covers services for maintaining IT equipment, security updates for networking equipment, and warranty management, effective from October 2026 to September 2027. The procurement was conducted through a direct award process, resulting in a contract awarded to Computacenter (UK) Limited. The total gross value of this contract is £306,000, with the procurement stage currently at the award phase, announced on 4th August 2026. The contract services will be delivered across the United Kingdom, particularly in the UKK region, and involve maintenance and repair services under the CPV code 50000000.

This tender provides significant growth opportunities for businesses involved in IT maintenance and repair services, particularly those with expertise in handling large-scale IT infrastructure and support services. Given the nature of the contract, larger businesses with the capacity to manage extensive IT maintenance and sub-contract where necessary would be well-suited to compete. The completion of delayed programmes and the onset of new systems during the contract period also signal potential future tender opportunities as the scope of the SSM evolves. Businesses capable of adapting to the Met Office's changing requirements and engaging in subsequent re-tendering processes scheduled for 2027 are likely to benefit significantly.

## Notice

Renewal of Single Source Maintenance (SSM) requirements from October 2026 to September 2027. The Single Source Maintenance (SSM) model has been established in the Met Office for many years and places responsibility for as much IT equipment maintenance as possible onto a single support supplier. It allows the supplier to sub-contract maintenance to specialist companies as needed where the supplier does not have in-house capacity or capability. The scope of SSM includes: * Maintenance & security updates for networking equipment; * Hardware maintenance for all IT equipment located within the IT Halls and at frontline sites; and, * Manufacturer warranty management for all Dell commodity equipment, such as desktops and laptops.

### Procurement Information

SSM renewal required to provide continuity of services during 2026/27. Requirement for services is an interim strategy necessitated by delay in on-going programmes. During the year the SSM scope will reduce due to completion of the delayed programmes and commencement of new systems, as existing hardware and systems are fully decommissioned. The Contract also has TUPE implications. MO considered the contract unlikely to be attractive to the wider market at this point. Met Office intends to re-tender revised scope of SSM requirements during 2027.
