## Summary

The University of Kent has awarded a direct contract to PEEL Roleplay Limited, valued at £452,040 gross, for the provision of simulated patients to support clinical training for medical students. This contract, complete as of 21st July 2026, involves a direct award due to the exclusive intellectual property rights PEEL Roleplay holds, making them the sole supplier of these unique services. The services fall under the "Training services" category, specifically within the regional scope of UKJ4 (South East). The contract period spans from 1st August 2026 to 31st July 2031, providing a structured timeframe for the delivery of these essential training services.

This tender offers significant opportunities for SMEs specialising in training services, particularly those capable of providing standardised experiences for medical training. The contract underscores the importance of having an established provider with national recognition, suggesting that businesses with a strong track record in high-quality, reliable, and flexible service provision would be ideal contenders. Given PEEL Roleplay's established relationship with the University of Kent, similar firms could leverage this model to form strategic partnerships with educational institutions, thereby broadening their market reach in the specialised field of medical training simulations.

## Notice

KMMS requires the services of an agency to provide 'simulated patients'/'standardised patients' (SP) for safe clinical training of medical students. Simulated Patients (SP) are involved in both the teaching and assessment of medical students' clinical and communication skills in all medical schools in the UK. These skills are recognised by the General Medical Council (GMC) as 'core competencies' as described in the 'Outcomes for Graduates' (2018) document. SPs form an integral and essential element of skill development, as it provides a standardized experience for students to practise and demonstrate their skills in a safe environment. Peel Roleplay is an established provider and has a national reputation for delivering a high quality, reliable and flexible service. We have built up a very strong and productive relationship with Peel over the past 6 years and they have been very responsive to our needs, have been extremely reliable and now know our established processes. Local provision of SPs was also explored, and no comparable service is currently available in Kent at the required volume / delivery structure/ level of expertise and experience.

### Procurement Information
