## Summary

Diamond Light Source Limited, a central government public authority located in Didcot, United Kingdom, is currently in the tender stage of a procurement process. The project, titled "DLSITT1104 - Supply of I14 Beamline M1 and M2 Mirror Systems for Diamond Light Source", falls under the industry category of optical instruments, specifically mirrors (CPV code 38622000). The procurement is part of the Diamond-II upgrade programme and involves designing, supplying, and commissioning mirror systems crucial for hard X-ray nano focusing experiments. Interested parties must submit their tenders by 28th August 2026, and the award is expected to be concluded by 14th September 2026. The procurement method is open procedure, ensuring a competitive and fair process.

This tender represents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in high-precision optical instruments, particularly those with expertise in designing systems that meet stringent vibration and stability requirements, potentially verified via finite element analysis (FEA). With a gross contract value of £720,000, it offers considerable business growth potential for suppliers, especially SMEs, who can demonstrate technical quality, experience, and capacity alongside competitive pricing. Companies equipped with advanced manufacturing, design, and testing capabilities in hard X-ray optics will be well-suited to compete for this project, which promises not only financial gain but also engagement with a world-leading science and innovation facility.

## Notice

Located on the Harwell Science & Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire, Diamond Light Source (DLS) is a leading-edge facility for science, engineering and innovation. DLS allows researchers from academia and industry to investigate the structure and behaviour of the world around us at the atomic and molecular level. To continue delivering the world-changing science that Diamond enables, the facility is being upgraded to Diamond-II, a co-ordinated programme of development that combines a major machine upgrade with new instruments and complementary improvements to optics, detectors, sample environment and delivery capabilities, and computing, as well as integrated and correlative methods. This will be transformative in speed and spatial resolution and will offer users streamlined access to enhanced instruments for life and physical sciences. The scope of the contract is for the design, supply, manufacture, assembly, test, delivery, installation and commissioning of 2 mirror systems for the I14 Imaging Beamline. This is a long hard X-ray beamline designed for hard x-ray nano focussing experiments, so stability is of the utmost importance. DLS will require the supplier to demonstrate that their proposed designs meet the vibration and stability requirements. This can be done using finite element analysis (FEA) together with evidence of test and performance data from similar previously built systems. See specification for further details.
