## Summary

The NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB), a public law body, sought a provider for the West Lancashire Integrated Urgent Care services through a competitive process. The procurement, which falls within the health services sector and aims to cover a variety of urgent care needs such as Urgent Treatment Centres, Walk-in Centres, and Deep Vein Thrombosis services, was conducted under Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023. This process was intended to operate without the formal publication of a call for competition. Unfortunately, the procurement process was abandoned as of 4th August 2026 due to viability concerns following representations received during a standstill period. This outcome was formalised through a process tagged as "award" and "contract," and the initial contract award notice was published in February 2026.

This tender could have been a significant opportunity for enterprises involved in healthcare services, particularly those with capabilities in providing integrated urgent care solutions. Companies offering 24/7 service integration aligning with NHS standards and capable of subcontracting might have found a substantial business avenue here. While the process was competitive, awards were based on price criteria, reflecting a focus on cost-effective solutions. Although this particular procurement was finalised without a contract being awarded, future endeavours in similar tenders could be fruitful for large and versatile healthcare service providers looking to expand within the UK public healthcare infrastructure.
