## Summary

The Environment Agency commissioned environmental services for the Beverley and Barmston Drain catchment, delivered in partnership with farmers and the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. The work centres on recruiting a dedicated Farm Engagement Officer, building relationships with farmers, and establishing a farmer cluster that can continue beyond the project. This procurement has been completed and the contract was awarded to Yorkshire Wildlife Trust through a direct award below the relevant threshold, without competition. The single lot is complete. The contract was signed on 3 August 2026 and runs from 3 August 2026 to 19 May 2028, with an option for up to an additional 12 months, ending no later than 18 May 2029. Its value is £107,500 excluding VAT, or £129,500 including VAT. Yorkshire Wildlife Trust holds the active award for the environmental services requirement. The arrangement combines farmer engagement and coordination with development and delivery of catchment interventions, alongside complementary works by the Environment Agency to improve depth and flow, including de-silting and vegetation removal.

This award indicates demand for suppliers able to combine environmental project delivery with practical agricultural engagement. A credible competitor for a future requirement of this kind would need experience building trusted relationships with farmers, organising collaborative farmer groups, and sustaining those networks beyond an individual project. Relevant capability includes developing and demonstrating good-practice land management, facilitating peer-to-peer learning, and translating catchment objectives into deliverable interventions on working farms. Suppliers should also be able to work in partnership with a public environmental body, manage delivery plans, and identify external match funding where possible. Understanding Water Framework Directive outcomes, habitat improvement, water quality, flood and drought resilience, and the operational realities of farm businesses would strengthen a supplier’s position for similar Environment Agency work.

## Notice

* The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust (YWT) will recruit a dedicated Farm Engagement Officer who will engage as many farmers as possible in the catchment, to build relationships with them, and will help them to collaborate with each other through establishment of a farmer cluster that can be sustained beyond the end of this project. * YWT will develop existing farmer relationships to create examples of good practice that deliver environmental benefits and improve farm business security. The examples will create the basis for peer-to-peer learning. * YWT will develop a delivery plan for physical interventions on participating farms where these can deliver WFD benefits and deliver these in partnership with farmers, using funding from the Agency and where possible by sourcing external match funding. * The Agency will deliver complimentary physical interventions on Beverley and Barmston Drain to improve depth and flow - including de-silting and vegetation removal. * The project will deliver a catchment with more sustainable land management, better able to cope with extreme weather events and reduce the negative effects of flood and drought on farm businesses and the environment. The improved habitats and water quality will help to deliver an improvement in the Water Framework Directive (WFD) status of Beverley and Barmston Drain.
